Sweden: border checks are back

November, 12 2015 - due to the large influx of refugees Sweden imposes temporary restrictive measures and checking of documents at borders. Now border controls is introduced for 10 days, then it can be extended up to six months.

Ordinary tourists will have to submit an appropriate document confirming their right to stay on the Schengen territory (ID of resident or Schengen visa for non-residents).

For refugees the practice of "transit" will be quitted - now Sweden will allow the entrance only for those refugees who intend to stay in the country. The authorities hope that this will put things in order, taking into account the refugees coming into the country.

The Swedish authorities believe the influx of immigrants is a threat to public order and national security. First of all the southern border will be closed from the uncontrolled crossing, as well as the ports where the ferries from Denmark and Germany arrive. The Government is committed to the return of document control in the ferry service between Sweden and neighboring countries.
