Wealth tax in Slovenia will be abolished in 2016

According to the Ministry of Finance, next year in Slovenia will be canceled the highest 50 per cent income taxation class. General tax increases are not expected.

Recall that in 2013 the National Assembly of Slovenia adopted a law under which citizens whose income is five times higher the average wage in the country (around €7715 per month), subject to 50 percent tax. This measure was considered as temporary, but last year it was extended for another one year.

The so-called "wealth tax" has affected approximately 0.5% of all taxpayers in the country. In 2013, total revenue from it into the treasury amounted to about €146 mln.

The property tax will also be changed - a flat tax will be introduced, which will replace the three existing ones. The assurances of the Ministry of Finance, the overall tax deductions for homeowners will not increase. So far we only know that the number of properties that are taxable will increase and also the data on the value of the property will be updated - thus planned to increase the financial return. The tax changes will be introduced in 2017.
