Police claims that residence permits in Latvia were issued for bribes

Security Police of Latvia considers that there have been cases of corruption in issuance of residence permits. Several employees of Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs are under suspicion, reports ee24.com citing baltic-course.com. 

Law enforcement authorities learned that officials of the Latvian Migration had renewed residence permit for a foreigner, violating existing rules of issuance and out of turn. Corruption scheme included a mediator who is a citizen of the Republic of Latvia, who also got money for services. 

Mediator was arrested and found guilty of accepting bribes and forging documents for residence permit in the interests of a third party. Criminal proceedings were started in respect of two officials of the Office. Security Police says they need to closely monitor the process of issuance of residence permit in order to people threatening national security could not recieve it.
