Owners of real estate in Latvia often suffer from leaking

The largest insurance company in Latvia BALTA, a member of the group RSA, has published internal statistics about accidents in insured houses and apartments. It appeared that most popular reason to claim for insurance proceeds was a leak of water in housing, according to ee24.com citing baltic-course.com.

Leaks happen in apartments in high-rise buildings and in suburban houses. The average amount of the indemnity in this case was 753 lats (€1,072 ) in the last five years.

Another common reasons to claim for insurance benefits were theft (16%), fire (10%) and natural disasters such as storms (7%), floods (2%) and snow (1%).

After fires BALTA customers receive €15,600 in average. In some cases, this amount even exceeds 100,000 lats (about €142,340). Those whose homes were affected by hurricanes, floods and snowstorms, recieve less: €1,164 , €2,837 and €3,029 respectively.
