Buyers spend €30 million a month for a residence permit in Latvia

Investors monthly spend €30 million to purchase real estate in Latvia in order to obtain the "golden visa", while in last year this amount did not exceed €25 million. By the end of March, the total investments amounted to €914.2 million, including those into property - €749.4 million, according to ee24.com citing varianti.lv.

In Jan-Mar foreigners bought 510 properties worth €90 million in order to obtain a residence permit in Latvia. Thus, the monthly volume of transactions amounted to 170, and the value amounted to €30 million, while the last year's figures were 130 sales and €24.75 million a month.

Since the beginning of the amendments to the law "On Immigration", ie from 1 July 2010, investors from 41 countries applying for a residence permit, purchased 3,828 houses, 1864 of which in Riga and 1048 in Jurmala. Except of these cities, the threshold in 100 transactions could overcome 3 regions: Ozolnieki, Babite and Cesis. Residence permits in Latvia were received by 7.7 thousand Russians, 0.8 thousand Chinese and 0.8 thousand Ukrainians, 0.5 thousand Uzbeks and 0.5 thousand Kazakhs. Altogether 11,025 people "moved" to Latvia to 31 March.
