Castello Orsini-Odescalchi, Lazio

Several stellar pairs, including Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, celebrated Noces in this castle near Rome. Orsini-Odescalchi Castle is considered to be one of the largest and best preserved in Italy. It was built for Pope Nicholas II in 1270's, and is rumored to be haunted.

Carcere Terra Murata, Campania

Once this building located at the highest point of the island of Procida, was used as a maximum security prison. Later it housed a factory. In March of this year, the facility was purchased by the state and opened as a tourist attraction.

Villa Mirabello, Lombardy

The villa built in the eighteenth-century was erected by order of the Grand Inquisitor of Malta. The news of its sale outraged local residents, who are hoping to prevent it.

Isola di San Giacomo, Venice

Caselli Daziari, Milan

The two tollhouses built in the nineteenth century are on both sides of the famous Arco della Pace in the historic center of Milan.

Caserma XXX maggio, Peschiera del Garda

These barracks, located in the Veneto region, also will be put up for auction. Peschiera has always played a significant role during the military campaigns in northern Italy, including the Napoleonic Wars and the Wars of the unification of Italy.
