Description
Laturo, a village abandoned in the '70s but springing back to life thanks to the work of an association, has only a few habitable houses, some already renovated. In a dominant position, isolated from the rest of the village, is the house known as “La Fortezza” ("The Fortress"), comprising 100 m2. This mountain outpost, open on four sides and with land all around it, is immersed in a wild and wooded setting with a channel supplying pure spring water to its slopes for free use. The House is arranged on three levels of about 25 m2 each, and has a stable of another 20 m2. This magnificent sentinel of Laturo, at the southern edge of the village, is among the best preserved of the houses. Its walls are of solid sandstone, a native stone used for millennia in the Monti della Laga. Excellent exposure and preservation of the original ancient wooden beams. In 2016 a temporary roof was constructed by the owners to protect it from the weather, with a view to future restoration. It can be reached only by off-road vehicle or on foot (about 30 minutes).
