In Denmark were built apartments from old shipping containers

In Copenhagen harbor there is an unusual house  consisting of 12 Studio apartments with courtyard and terrace. It is built from shipping containers that have become unusable. The author of the project, Kim Laudrup, says that such apartments are an affordable choice for those who are unable to rent or buy more expensive housing.

In the 70-ies of the last century there was an idea of such houses to be build in California in the midst of a housing shortage. But now the requirements of comfort are not the same. On the other hand, the climatic conditions in Denmark differ from California.

But Kim Laudrup believes in the future of his project. "Currently in Denmark are more often constructed offices, not homes, says Laudrup. – Therefore the prices for apartments and houses go up very quickly." Now people study longer, much later acquire their families, and therefore, they need a separate spacious home later. This is the category of persons who may be interested in apartments from shipping containers.

In addition, the construction of such houses from old shipping containers causes much less harm to the environment – greenhouse gas emissions is reduced by 1,000 tonnes or more.
