Czech Republic: dual citizenship is now allowed

Czech President Milos Zeman signed the law and allowed dual citizenship. The new simplified procedure is beneficial primarily for second-generation immigrants, in particular from Vietnam, reports RIA "Novosti" with reference to the Czech Radio.

"A regulation provides for the possibility of dual citizenship. Foreigners are not necessarily abandon the existing citizenship of another country, if they obtain Czech citizenship," said the press service of the Czech President.

The law on dual citizenship in the Czech Republic should make life easier for workers, as well as those who emigrated from the country and lost Czech citizenship. Such people will be able to get it back under the simplified scheme, but the new rules do not apply to their children and grandchildren. The exceptions are children who were born in Czechoslovakia in the period from October 1949 to May 1969.
