About the project
The Depot Rato site, a historically valuable area a stone's throw from the center of Mechelen, is buzzing again with activity! Until a few decades ago, aircraft engines were manufactured on the site in the former Rateau factory, now the site itself is the engine for the development of a cozy residential area that can accommodate 48 families. With respect for history, 41 apartments and 7 new-build homes are being built here in a quiet and green setting. The new residences of Depot Rato have a very varied range of houses, apartments, duplexes and penthouses. As a result, they appeal to both young families and those looking for the comfort of an apartment, coupled with the immediate proximity of a city center. In addition to the residential implementation, this ambitious residential area will house the historical heritage warehouses of the city of Mechelen, a Lidl, a children's crib and a parking garage. The historic buildings will be joined by several new constructions, built in iconic architecture, referring to the site's past. At the place where modern new constructions and historical heritage meet, a public square is being set up, where you can enjoy the view of old and new in peace.
